Brassica Conditioning and SymFeel™ Quat Green: Why We Use Them for Oodles

Brassica Conditioning and SymFeel™ Quat Green: Why We Use Them for Oodles

When you brush a curly Oodle coat, you can feel the difference between a product that simply smells lovely and one that helps the comb move through. That easier glide is often called slip. It matters because less resistance can make routine detangling more comfortable, especially in areas where the coat rubs against itself or a harness.

At Royal Oodle, our product descriptions highlight two approaches to that job: Brassica-derived conditioning in our rinse-out conditioners and SymFeel™ Quat Green in our leave-in detanglers. Here is what those terms mean, why we use them and how to think about them alongside more familiar conditioning ingredients.

What is Brassica-derived conditioning?

Brassica is a family of plants that includes oilseed crops. “Brassica-derived” describes the plant source of the conditioning technology highlighted in our rinse-out formulas; it is not a complete ingredient list or a promise that every ingredient in the bottle comes directly from a plant. The ingredient is used to help the coat feel smoother and easier to manage after washing.

Our Vanilla Latte Conditioner and Manuka Honey Conditioner are described as using Brassica-derived conditioning to provide slip while keeping the finish light. That is the result we're aiming for: a coat you can rinse, dry and comb without an overly heavy feel. The full formula, the amount used and how thoroughly you rinse all influence the result.

What is SymFeel™ Quat Green?

SymFeel™ Quat Green is the trade name used in our leave-in product descriptions for a plant-derived conditioning ingredient. “Quat” refers to a type of positively charged conditioning chemistry: it helps explain how an ingredient can give hair a smoother feel and improve combability. Plant-derived does not mean the ingredient is simply raw plant extract; it is formulated to do a specific conditioning job.

We highlight it in our Vanilla Latte leave-in detangler and Manuka Honey leave-in detangler because these products are meant to add slip during brushing between baths, without being rinsed away. A light mist and gentle, section-by-section brushing are more useful than saturating the coat or pulling through a stubborn knot.

Why choose these approaches instead of a heavy-coated feel?

For an Oodle, softness is only part of the story. We want a product that helps with brush glide while letting a curly or wavy coat remain manageable. Our conditioner descriptions emphasise a rinse-clean finish; our leave-in descriptions emphasise lightweight detangling. Those are practical formulation goals, not proof that one ingredient outperforms every older conditioning ingredient in every product.

Polyquaternium-7 and Polyquaternium-10 are examples of established conditioning polymers used in hair-care formulations. They can provide slip and help control static. Polyquaternium-10 is itself made from modified cellulose, so the neat divide between “plant-based” and “synthetic” can be misleading. Silicones also vary; some formulas feel heavier than others. An ingredient name alone cannot tell you whether a complete product will leave residue, irritate a particular dog or outperform another formula.

That is why we prefer to explain the finish we're designing for rather than call other ingredients “outdated” or unsafe. The useful comparison is how the finished product behaves on your dog's coat when used as directed.

Which one belongs in your routine?

  • At bath time: use a rinse-out conditioner as directed, then rinse thoroughly and dry the coat carefully.
  • Between baths: use a leave-in detangler as directed to support gentle brushing where the coat is prone to tangles.
  • For tight mats or sore skin: stop. Do not tug through a mat close to the skin or rely on a conditioning product to treat irritation. Ask a groomer about matting and a vet about persistent redness, itching or discomfort.

Different coats respond differently. The best test is whether the full routine helps your Oodle stay comfortable and makes regular coat care easier. Check the current product label for the complete ingredients of the specific formula you choose.
